Letter from the Chancellor

Letter from the Chancellor

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We’re about to begin another amazing chapter in our 143-year history. I was drawn to Southern Illinois University because of its rich history of accomplishments. The achievements you have been part of and made possible. But I also can’t help feel the thrill of all the incredible things still waiting to be discovered, invented, and created right here.

As long as I’ve been involved with SIU, I’ve been one of our most vocal advocates. Even if that meant addressing misperceptions one person at a time. Now, I’m happy to say, our message is about to reach a much wider audience. We’re embarking on a mission to make sure that everyone understands exactly what SIU means to Illinois and the world. After months of research and planning, we’re ready to launch a new brand campaign. One that will demonstrate that SIU has all the brains of a nationally ranked research university while preserving the heart of a small college. A place that is powered by relationships. Where big things will always be within reach.

What you are about to read is an important component of this effort. Our identity, while not the brand by itself, will undoubtedly be the most visible part of our reintroduction. This guide will help every school, department, and staff member gain a thorough understanding of the new identity system—and that will help lay the groundwork for our overall goal: a stronger, more unified SIU brand.

This is an exciting and crucial time for SIU. You helped get us here. And we couldn’t possibly move forward without you. Together we’ll show everyone, everywhere, what it means to be a Saluki.

Deepest regards,
Signature
